CITGO - 100 Years of Growth

On September 2, 1910, a young entrepreneur by the name of Henry L. Doherty founded Cities Service Company to provide utility services for the rapidly developing cities of the Midwest. The name he chose was a fitting one as it conveyed a sense of the dawning urbanity of society while echoing the company's focus on fulfilling people's wants and needs.

Within just two years of its establishment, Cities Service acquired 98 companies and served as the wellspring of the oil and gas exploration, production, refining and marketing powerhouse, which would in due course evolve into today's CITGO Petroleum Corporation.

CITGO - 100 Years of Fueling Good

Central to Henry L. Doherty's founding vision was the concept of combining exceptional business opportunities with the progressive idea of improving the lives of everyday people. His philanthropic instincts and conservationist tendencies were intrinsic to the way he did business. Doherty's legacy of creating phenomenal business success while Fueling Good in local and global communities across the nation continues to inspire and influence the way CITGO conducts business today.

A century later, looking back on the zillion miles traveled since the beginning of the CITGO journey, we're still focused on the same vision - striking a balance between company success and giving back to the communities in which we work.
