WHAT IS THE FUELING GOOD PROGRAM?

Established in 2009, the CITGO Fueling Good program rewards local heroes who give back to their communities. Eligible 501(c)(3) charities can register through a simple process. Winners are selected based on their fit with the CITGO brand pillars (listed here) and number of online votes. The winners are awarded $5,000 in CITGO Gift Cards to assist in their good works.

Past winners have used the awards to deliver groceries to local food banks, transport people to work and appointments, provide mobile health and dentistry services, and even distribute books to children. It's just one more way CITGO is fueling the engine of change.

HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?

There are several ways you can participate in the Fueling Good program:

Registration Period (Sept. 4 – Oct. 16): If you live in a CITGO neighborhood, you can encourage local charities to register their cause for a chance to win. Eligible charities can submit their application here.

Voting Period (Oct. 17 – Nov. 28): During our voting period, you can vote once a day for your favorite charity and encourage your friends and family to do the same. It's easy and only takes a minute. You can find your favorite charity here.

Anytime: We encourage you to get the word out about the program via Facebook and Twitter to help us spread the good around! Just use the share button at the top of the page.

WHEN DOES THE PROGRAM BEGIN?

Registration for the Fall 2012 contest begins Sept. 4, 2012. Voting begins Oct. 17 and runs through Nov. 28, 2012.

WHAT ORGANIZATIONS ARE ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE?

Most charities are eligible to enter the Fueling Good program if they are registered as a 501(c)(3) organization, are located within the CITGO footprint, and directly support one of our four CITGO brand pillars.

The CITGO footprint is made up of the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia.

The CITGO brand pillars are designed to benefit people and are the focus of our philanthropic efforts. They include:

  • Education and social investment
  • Energy assistance and conservation
  • Environmental protection and restoration
  • Health and well-being

Please note that charities that do not primarily benefit people are not eligible for the program.

For full eligibility requirements, please reference our official rules.

WHAT ARE THE FOUR PILLARS? WHICH PILLAR DOES MY CHARITY FALL UNDER?

The four pillars are focus areas that guide our company's philanthropic efforts. In order to participate in the Fueling Good program, a charitable organization must seek to improve people's lives in one of the following areas:

  • Education and social investment: Sharing the gift of knowledge and understanding
Examples of charities that fit under this pillar include those that offer childhood or adult education programs, provide tutoring or after-school programs to youth, or deliver resources to classrooms.
  • Energy assistance and conservation: Finding new ways to power our lives
Examples of charities that fit under this pillar include those that promote energy efficiency or those that offer additional energy resources to those in need.
  • Environmental protection and restoration: Standing up for the planet
Examples of charities that fit under this pillar are those that preserve national parks and natural resources or those that promote recycling and planet-friendly behaviors.
  • Health and well-being: Making happy hearts and happy minds
Examples of charities that fit under this pillar include those that encourage healthy nutrition and lifestyle choices or those that provide physical or mental resources to those in need.

DO ANIMAL-RELATED CHARITIES QUALIFY FOR THE PROGRAM?

While we acknowledge the important work animal shelters and rescue organizations do in their communities, the Fueling Good program focuses its efforts on charities that directly and primarily benefit people.

Charities that provide service or therapeutic animals for people in need or organizations that focus on educating people about wildlife or animal husbandry could be eligible.

WHY IS MY STATE NOT LISTED?

Only charities located where CITGO gasoline stations operate are eligible to participate, since these are the charities that are most likely to use CITGO Gift Cards.

Eligible states include:
Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia.

Charity participants are encouraged to check the proximity of nearby CITGO locations by visiting the store locator.

CAN INDIVIDUALS ENTER?

The Fueling Good program only accepts entries from registered 501(c)(3) organizations within the CITGO footprint (or eligible states). Individuals can participate by encouraging local charities to enter the program and voting for them daily during the voting period.

HOW DO I MAKE CHANGES TO MY CHARITY PROFILE?

After your entry has been accepted, you can log in and make changes to your profile here. Please note that you can only make changes during the registration phase, which ends on Oct. 16, 2012, for the fall program.

IF MY CHARITY WINS, WHAT DO WE RECEIVE?

Winners will receive $5,000 in CITGO Gift Cards to help spread the ripple of good. Award packages typically contain CITGO Gift Cards in denominations of $100, but we can provide other denominations by request.

Some winning charities are also offered the opportunity to participate in local PR events with CITGO location owners and distributors, which provides great publicity for their causes.

HOW DO I VOTE?

Voting for the 2012 Fall Fueling Good program begins Oct. 17 and runs through Nov. 28. You can vote for your favorite charity at FuelingGood.com once a day by selecting their charity profile here. You'll need to enter your email address and enter a "Captcha" test word to ensure voting accuracy.

If you're using a public computer and you're having trouble voting, try clearing the cache and reloading the page. If you continue to experience problems, you can reach out to us using our contact form for assistance.

HOW OFTEN CAN I VOTE FOR MY FAVORITE CHARITY?

Individuals may vote once a day at FuelingGood.com

I CAN'T FIND THE CHARITY I WANT TO VOTE FOR. WHERE IS IT?

Charities are searchable by their name or by keywords in their entries. If you're having trouble finding the one you're looking for, try searching by state here. Still can't find it? Check with the charity to ensure that their registration was posted correctly.

HOW ARE THE WINNERS SELECTED?

At the end of the voting period, four potential winners are selected from each of the three CITGO regions based on the number of votes each charity receives. Potential winners are then reviewed and vetted to make sure they fit the CITGO brand pillars and other eligibility requirements. The winners are announced on the Fueling Good website and through various media outlets.

WHEN WILL THE WINNERS BE ANNOUNCED?

For the fall program, we expect to announce winners on or around Dec. 20, 2012.

We rounded off our time at the CITGO in Plano, IL with a talk with local CITGO owner Rocky. He told us he's feeling good about fueling good and we couldn't agree more. Now onto Indiana!

Adam and Diego stopped at historic Wrigley Field to meet Teddy, a young boy with Muscular Dystrophy. Teddy and his family were invited to attend a Chicago Cubs baseball game as guests of CITGO and made a visit to the Cubs radio broadcast booth with Adam and Diego. The guys got to spend some quality time with Teddy, who was having a blast at the game. In other words, it would be safe to say the hot dogs were as plentiful as the Fueling Good.
